Kudzu Weaving Retreat and Workshop

During the weekend of September 12, the Sustainable Arts Society hosted a workshop retreat. The purpose of this retreat was to explore ideas for harvesting kudzu towards an ultimate goal of producing marketable merchandise. In light of the current awareness of the Greening America movement, participants of the retreat are researching the viability of this Georgia resource. Although widely used in Japan, it's many purposes ranging from food to cloth, it is simply viewed as a nuisance and invasive plant here in the Southeast. By bringing a positive awareness to the plant, the group hopes to see this vine used productively.

The Sustainable Arts Society hosted the group from Friday evening through Sunday where everyone worked harmoniously together under clear blue skies and beautiful weather.
